NIKKE Team Building Guide: Compositions for Every Mode

Building the right team in NIKKE is more than throwing your strongest characters together. Burst rotation, element matching, and role synergy determine whether your team crumbles or dominates. This guide breaks down team building for every game mode.

Burst Rotation Basics

The burst system is the foundation of every team composition. Understanding it is essential.

Burst I

First burst in the chain. Typically generates energy or applies team-wide buffs. Characters with Burst I start the rotation.

Burst II

Second burst. Often provides damage amplification, shields, or debuffs on enemies. Bridges the rotation.

Burst III

Final burst that triggers Full Burst. This is where your main DPS characters go. Full Burst lasts 10 seconds with all characters firing at maximum output. Most teams run two Burst III characters to alternate every 20 seconds.

Always ensure your team has at least one character for each burst phase (I, II, III). Burst IV characters like Red Hood can fill any phase, making them versatile picks. Without a complete rotation, you cannot trigger Full Burst.

Team Role Balance

A balanced team needs the right mix of roles to handle both damage and survival.

Attackers (2-3 per team)

Your main damage dealers. The standard composition is 1 Burst I, 1 Burst II, 2 Burst III, and 1 flex slot. Your two Burst III attackers alternate each rotation for consistent Full Burst uptime.

Supporters (1-2 per team)

ATK buffers, crit buffers, cooldown reducers, and healers. Their burst and skill levels directly affect team damage output.

Defenders (0-1 per team)

Shields, taunts, and damage reduction. Useful for hard Campaign stages and Interception, but many endgame teams skip them for more DPS.

Element Advantage

Matching your team element to the enemy weakness provides about 10% bonus damage. While not as dramatic as some games, it adds up over long fights and can be the edge in competitive content.

The element cycle forms a pentagon: Fire beats Wind, Wind beats Iron, Iron beats Electric, Electric beats Water, Water beats Fire. Having element advantage gives +10% damage dealt.

Mode-Specific Compositions

Each game mode rewards different team compositions. Build your roster to cover multiple modes.

Campaign

Needs sustained DPS, healing, and survival. Boss stages may require element matching. Wide roster helps for Challenge stages that restrict character usage.

PvP Arena

First burst wins. Prioritize fast burst generation, burst energy skills, and high immediate damage. Hit Rate substats matter here for accuracy against evasive teams.

Solo Raid

Pure DPS race against a single boss. Build around one core DPS with maximum ATK buffs. Element matching is critical for top scores.

Co-op Raid

Coordinate with other players. Focus on roles that complement your team. Boss mechanics often require specific character abilities.

Interception

Requires specific team compositions to break boss parts. Defender characters shine here. Custom Module rewards make this a daily priority.

Building Synergy

The best teams amplify each other instead of just adding individual power.

Stack Multiplicative Buffs

ATK buff + Crit Rate buff + Crit Damage buff multiply together. This is far more powerful than three separate ATK buffs that add together.

Match Weapon Types to Content

SG and SMG excel at close-range, MG and AR for sustained DPS, SR for single-target burst. Pick weapons that fit the boss mechanics.

Cover Your Burst Phases

The standard team runs two Burst III characters (for alternating rotations every 20 seconds), one Burst I, one Burst II, and one flex. Deviating from this means inconsistent Full Burst uptime.

Plan for Tribe Tower

Tribe Tower restricts characters by manufacturer. Build at least 5 solid characters per manufacturer for tower progression.

Common Team Building Mistakes

All Burst III, No Rotation

Stacking 5 DPS with Burst III means you cannot trigger Full Burst. Always cover all 3 burst phases.

Ignoring Element Matchups

Bringing a fire team against a water boss cuts your damage significantly. Check element weakness before building.

Copy-Pasting Meta Teams Blindly

Meta team guides assume max investment. Your actual best team depends on your roster and who you have built.

Build your teams around the characters you have invested in, not the ones you wish you had. A well-invested B-tier character outperforms an underleveled S-tier character.
